Digital foundations hold substantial promise for AI readiness in LMICs, and there appear to be compelling opportunities for stakeholders enthusiastic about AI for development, safety, and global inclusion to scale access to connectivity, computing devices, and basic digital skills to enable meaningful participation in the digital economy. This blog post explores the promise of digital foundations as strong pillars to support scalable AI inclusion and development.

This is a retrospective on our seminar program on AI governance, run from March to April 2025, which brought together a motivated, cross-sectoral group of Nigerian stakeholders and equipped them with the insights, tools, and connections to actively contribute to shaping inclusive AI governance. It provided a model for how African-led, locally grounded, globally engaged capacity-building efforts can meaningfully shape future technology governance debates.
