Tech Governance Project (TGov) is a non-profit initiative committed to improving the governance of emerging technologies in Africa, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology. Our approach is centered on improving awareness of risks and governance gaps, improving stakeholders' engagement with international governance efforts, and supporting them in devising effective governance. We aim to achieve our approach through the following key strategies: Â
Research and Analysis:Â
Conducting in-depth research and analysis to provide evidence and information that enables better understanding and decision-making among stakeholders.
Workshops and Discussions:Â
To foster knowledge and understanding among the stakeholders by sharing findings and insights, enabling enhanced engagement and action.Â
Policy advancement:Â
Collaborating with stakeholders to evaluate, refine, and advance policy ideas, both advisory and non-advisory policies.Â

Our StructureÂ
We are fiscally sponsored by the Player Philanthropy Funds (PPF), a Maryland-based charitable trust that operates as a public charity in the United States. Our team brings diverse experience in non-profit management, research, policy development, communication, and stakeholder engagement. We are networking and building relationships with communities such as Effective Altruism (EA), academia, and Global Catastrophic Risk (GCR)Â actors. We aim to draw upon these networks, relationships, internal advisors, and volunteers to engage with our key target stakeholders in Africa and beyond.
What We Are Up To: At this stage, we are:Â
Finalizing AI and Biorisk Governance Landscape Research in Africa:
Our analyses focus on understanding the landscape of AI and bio-governance efforts in Africa, governance challenges, and emerging trends in governance efforts. The goal is to provide TGov with a better understanding of both AI and bio-governance activities in Africa, assist TGov in refining its interventions, and facilitate connections with appropriate stakeholders. These analyses also serve as a valuable resource for those interested in gaining insights into Africa's AI and bio-governance landscape, ultimately improving understanding and decision-making.
Harmonizing Our Prioritization Research Report:
We are developing a report prioritizing regional stakeholders and individual African countries for bio-governance efforts. Our prioritization research aims to allow us to:Â
Allocate resources effectively where our efforts can lead to tangible outcomes.
Identify and connect with the key stakeholders with whom we can collaborate or partner to drive our mission forward in Africa.
Researching Regional and International Forums/Coalitions:
TGov is analyzing global AI governance platforms to assess:Â
The ones that provide opportunities for African countries to foster global AI governance via them. Â
Or if they could accelerate African countries participation in global AI governance.
Consulting with African Stakeholders:
We are consulting with identified African stakeholders to share our project, learn more about their priorities, and gain insights to shape our strategy and pilot projects.
